Turning Space into Story

Some artists paint what they see; others paint what they feel. But Joan paints—and sculpts—what she experiences in three dimensions, pulling the viewer into a world that refuses to be confined by a frame, from her earlier concrete fish sculptures that defied the medium, to her luminous paintings on silk that masterfully captured the detailed depths of light.

Her 3-dimensional canvases are perhaps the most arresting: surreal landscapes that push out toward you, bending space and defying the ordinary rules of perspective. Standing before one is like stepping into a dream where the boundaries between here and there, real and imagined, dissolve.

It’s rare to encounter an artist who so fully understands form, volume, and depth—not as technical skills, but as languages for storytelling. In her hands, the third dimension is not just a visual trick; it’s the emotional backbone of her art.

Inspired by Nature

Inspired by the form—and ultimately, the grace—of nature, Joan’s art invites a closer look at the often-overlooked elements of everyday life. Her vibrant, light-filled works are created using acrylic paints and mediums, ranging in style from intricately brushed realism to bold, contemporary pieces crafted with thick impasto and palette knife techniques.
